Course overview

About this qualification

The beauty industry has grown steadily for a decade and, unlike much of retail, it cannot be automated or offshored. The Certificate III in Beauty Services is the qualification employers hire against, and — critically — the one insurers reference when they underwrite you.

The qualification covers facial treatments and skin analysis, waxing and hair removal, makeup application for a range of occasions and skin tones, nail services, and the retail and consultation skills that turn a single appointment into a regular client. Hygiene and infection control run throughout, because beauty services involve broken skin far more often than clients realise.

It suits people already working in salons without formal qualification, those trained overseas, and career changers who want a practical, personable trade. It is also a sensible foundation if your longer goal is a specialised area such as advanced skin treatments — most of which require this qualification first.

Questions we get asked

Frequently asked questions

There is no individual licence in NSW, but reputable salons hire qualified therapists and — importantly — professional indemnity insurers ask what you hold. Working without it limits both where you can work and what you can safely offer.

No, and be careful here. Laser, IPL and cosmetic injectables sit under separate regulation with their own qualification and, in some cases, health practitioner requirements. This Certificate III is the foundation you generally need before pursuing those, not a substitute for them.

Yes, with salon experience. Expect a practical assessment component. Bring a portfolio of your work, salon references, client booking records if you have them, and any brand or product training certificates you have accumulated.

Many therapists do — mobile services and home studios are common and have low start-up costs compared with a salon fit-out. You will need appropriate insurance, and council requirements apply to home-based businesses. We often pair this with Certificate III in Business for people going that way.

Yes, and rightly so. Waxing, extractions and nail work regularly involve broken skin, so infection control is treated as core practice rather than an add-on module.

Important. Certification Made Easy is not a Registered Training Organisation (RTO). We operate solely as a consulting agency, providing advisory and referral services to our clients through our trusted RTO partners.

Course codes, units and any licensing requirements are set by the training package and the relevant regulator, and change over time. Confirm current details with your RTO and, where a licence is involved, with the regulator in your state.
